Satu Hektar Langit di Kovilje Serbia ( An Acre of Sky in Kovilje Serbia )

A young Serbian monk Fr. Amvrosije, who moved to Kovilje monastery after 200 years of NO ONE maintaining this holy place where there is only wild animal friends... he adopted the wolf when she was only 15 days old This is their friendship after 10 months…Monk named her Alfa – he was saying that she is bit skittish from people but when they are alone she is cuddly with him …other man was saying that he never see this miracle before saying that this is only Gods work...... until the government took her to the asylum!

 Fr. Amvrosije, 29 tahun,

At one time, there were many monks in Kovilje Monastery, situated at the foot of a spectacular Javor Mountain in central Serbia. The 12th century Serbian Orthodox monastery with two cave churches, Church of St. Archangel Gabriel and St. Nicholas Church, even housed a school in the old times. Today, there is only one monk praying and serving here, in the ancient ascetic monastery exuding ethereal peace, shrouded in nature’s opulence.

Sejak siaran televisi Serbia

Ever since Serbian television broadcast a documentary about the devout young hieromonk, the story about Hegumen Amvrosije (Alimpijević) and his “pact with wolves” had crossed Serbian borders, and tens of thousands of people have seen YouTube videos of him with the female wolf Fr. Amvrosije calls Alpha.” Monah I Vuk” ( The Monk and The Wolf )

“I am neither a saint, nor a miracle-worker,” Fr. Amvrosije told Politika reporter.
“The whole story was misunderstood: it is not me taming the animals, it is they who have accepted me. Through my friendship with them, I am getting the answers to some of my questions. There are some things I can’t explain, things that can’t be put to words”, he said.

Biarawan bercanda dengan "sahabatnya"

Tersentuh Cinta Allah ( Wounded by God’s Love )

Monasteri Kovilje setelah kosong selama 200 tahun

Fr.

Very few visitors come to Kovilje Monastery. The hallowed silence surrounding the old shrine spreading into the rock cave is interrupted only by the sound of birds, water rushing through creeks and church bells. Fr. Amvrosije said he enjoys the solitude after serving in Studenica Monastery for three-and-a-half years.
“In Studenica I was a guide to 20 busloads of visitors a day. In the evening, when I would return to my cell and close my eyes, the faces kept flying by… That is not for me, I have found peace here,” Fr. Amvrosije said.
Highly educated, gracious 29-year-old hegumen chose a life calling atypical for his generation.
“A monk is a man wounded by God’s love. I went to monastery when I was 20-years-old and I would do the same again”, he told reporters while serving them coffee and Serbian brandy, Slivovitz.

A mobile phone is his only connection to the world. He says he must have one because of his parishioners, scattered through a 45-kilometer radius. Fr. Amvrosije serves the Holy Liturgies, officiates at marriage sacraments, Slava celebrations and funerals, he baptizes and performs the last rites on the outskirts of Javor Mountain, which belongs to Serbian Orthodox Žiča Diocese.
In addition to theology, Kovilje hegumen also graduated at the music college and plays piano and guitar. He sees his family members three times a year. His 9 years younger brother Aleksandar plays football in Hungary. When he visited Fr. Amvrosije in Kovilje Monastery, he said:
“What is this? An acre of sky?”
“Yes, an acre of sky and mountain with Church at its heart”, Fr. Amvrosije responded.
A 4-wheel-drive and a motorcycle are parked next to monastic quarters. “I received the 4-wheel-drive and a bike as a gift a month ago, thanks to the RTS documentary theology professor Milos Vesin from Libertyville in United States had seen. Professor, his students and parishioners have collected money to provide me with transportation in these roadless mountains,” Fr. Amvrosije said.
Before the generous gift from American Serbs, Fr. Amvrosije was visiting his parishioners on foot, often crossing dozens of miles in harshest weather, suitable only for wolves which are befriending the young priest.

Pemandangan “Satu Hektar Langit”  di Kovilje Serbia

Intisari Cinta
"Dia
baru 15-hari ketika mereka menemukan dan membawanya kepada saya, dia baru saja membuka matanya. Saya memberinya makan setiap empat jam, pertama dengan susu, kemudian dengan daging giling. Saya memberinya nama Alfa.  “

When Politka reporter asked if it was possible to see his famous female wolf Alpha, Kovilje hegumen whistled few times and a beautiful timber wolf sneaked up behind them, but kept its distance in the presence of outsiders.
“She will not approach anyone and no one can touch her except me, which is only natural, because I brought her up,” Fr. Amvrosije explained, as the wolf cautiously circled around the suspicious intruders.
“She was only 15-days-old when they brought her to me, she had just opened her eyes. I was feeding her every four hours, first with milk, then with ground meat. I gave her the name Alpha.”

 Alfa dan Fr. Amvrosije

Reminded of an old saying that “the wolf changes hair but never its nature”, Fr. Amvrosije responds:
“Love changes its hair, but never its essence.”
Alpha is now 10-months-old and it is still considered a cub, since wolves become mature and fully grown when they reach 2 years of age. She has her box in the monastery, where she sleeps at night (so she wouldn’t start raiding the local stables and chicken coups), but during the day she is free to roam the woods.
“I had another wolf before, she was also a female, but I didn’t bring up that one, she was wild. We were all going on walks together, but after a while she wouldn’t go to her box, I had to carry her in. She is now in Čačak animal reserve,” Fr. Amvrosije said.
Apart from wolves, Kovilje monk was also befriended by a fox, which only comes by at night.
“The fox comes over only at night, she is more cautious than the wolf. I took her from some hunters in Nis, she was the size of a cup. I also had an eagle, he was entirely tame, he wouldn’t fly away. He was killed by the drunken hunters… I was always afraid they’d kill the wolf first…”, Fr. Amvrosije said.
He had also tamed a snake, a raven, a rabbit, an owl and a parrot. In a documentary about Kovilje Monastery, hegumen Amvrosije said that most of these birds and animals were brought to him by his parishioners, who would find them ill, wounded or deserted. Fr. Amvrosije would nurse them, raise them and take care of them, until they were strong enough to go back to their own. But they kept returning and some, like Alpha, never leave the sight of the kindhearted monk.

“There is a pitfall there,” he explains. “Animals always give us back more than they receive, it is easy to love them, they play fair. It is much harder to love men, much more difficult, relations with people are very complex. So one can start shying away from people, getting secluded and isolated. Being with people, relating to people takes a lot of courage and love, it is a spiritual feat . But we must strive to love people and live in harmony with them.”
Now, Kovilje hieromonk has been separated from his wolf, when Alpha gets transported to the asylum, with other wolves. Asked if he would be sad without his friend, Fr. Amvrosije said:
“One has to give freedom to those he loves, that is the true love. Us humans have a hard time coming to terms with it, but we are slowly learning.”

Onom koga volis moras dati slobodu...

Petition of " The Monk and The wolf " Return the wolf Alfa back to Kovilje

  The wolf Alfa

To the Serbian Orthodox Church
SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH
Belgrade
Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church
11000 Belgrade, Kralja Petra no.5

Dear  Sirs,
We are kindly asking you to help give back to this wolf her freedom and let her return to the Monastery of Kovilje.  We do appreciate that the fate of a wolf may not be an issue of high priority on your agenda.  However, there are times when seemingly little things can be larger than those that outwardly appear to be of  much greater importance.
Relative to our own views, things bear the significance that we ascribe to them.  But for someone else, whose fate is at stake, it can mean a whole lifetime, which can be joy or misery, depending on one single decision, seemingly unimportant, but of immense bearing.  The greatness of man is the ability to grasp the future, one’s own and of others, and to bring joy into both.
Thank you so much and God bless you.

Kovilje Monastery in Serbia

Kolvije monastery built in 12 century

Kovilje Monastery (Манастир Ковиљe), dedicated to Archangel Gabriel, is a monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church, located in the village of Kovilje, in the municipality of Ivanjica, in south-west Serbia belonging to the Žiča Diocese. It is sited between Golija and Javor mountains, in the Nošnica river valley. The monastery has two churches, one built partly in a cave and dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel, the other, added later, dedicated to St. Nicholas.
The monastery was founded in the 12th century. The first written reference to it is in 1606, in the "Kruševačkom Pomeniku". It was rebuilt in 1644 by Archbishop Gavrilo (Rašković). Records from 1733 mention it as an educational establishment.
The hegumen of the monastery is the young Serbian Orthodox Hieromonk Amvrosije. He lives there by himself with his tamed animals of two wolves, a fox, an eagle, a snake, raven, rabbit and an owl.. The life of the monastery has been documented in the Serbian documentary "Monah i vuk" (Monk and the wolf ).

AKSION ESTIN - Japanese, Greek, English, Indonesian

Our parish youth choir, St.Romanos Melodos Choir,  is going to chant a beautiful hymn of Theothokos, Axion Estin,  in Japanese.
This hymn will be chanted before the Holy Matrimony of one of our Japanese parishioner.

We received the music score of AXION ESTIN (in Japanese: Tsuneni saiwai ni shite ) from The Holy Theophany Parish in Nagoya by the help of Mrs. Maria Matsushima, presvitera the Holy Theophany parish Nagoya.

Tsune ni saiwai o michi, mattaku isagiyou shite,

Herubim no ue ni tootomare,

Misao o yaburazu shite, Kamikotoba o umeri,

Kamino jitsu no haha naru o motte, nanji o agamehomu.

In English:
It is truly meet and right to bless you, O Theotokos,
Ever-blessed and most-pure mother of our God.
More honourable than the Cherubim,
And beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim,
Who without corruption gave birth to God the Word,
True Theotokos: we magnify you

tin aimakariston ki panamomiton ki metera tou theou imon.

Tin timioteran ton heruvim ki endhoxoteran asikritos ton serafim.

Tin adhiafthoros theon logon tekoussan tin ontos theotokon se megalinomen.

sungguh kau sang Theotokos, engkau kujunjung tinggi.”

FORTY EXCUSES FOR NOT JOINING THE ORTHODOX CHURCH

From the universe of western Christians cultural prejudices, ethnic pride, excuses, ignorance and sheer laziness, modeled on the ‘too different’ excuse, I have over the years heard the following:

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I was born Roman Catholic/Protestant’.
(No, you weren’t. You were born a pagan, like all of us. You were then conditioned and manipulated by a set of ethnocentric cultural values. Look at the Apostles: most of them were born Jews, only they freely changed to Orthodoxy).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you don’t have a Pope’.
(You don’t need a Pope; Christ is the Head of the Church)

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you don’t have the filioque’.
(Nor does the New Testament. See Jn. 15, 26 or Acts 2,33).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you don’t have purgatory’
(The Gospel never mentions this Latin word that was first mentioned at the end of the twelfth century).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because it’s a sect’.
(For nearly 2,000 years, billions of people have not thought so. Are you so much cleverer than all of them?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you have saints’.
(Sadly, that is your loss. Don’t you want to know the friends of Christ?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because your way of taking communion is so unhygienic’.
(Then why aren’t Orthodox all constantly ill?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you kiss icons’.
(Don’t you kiss members of your family? Don’t you love Christ and those close to him? Are you not members of the family of Christ? Or are you victims of Protestant scientism?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you have to confess’.
(You mean you have no sins? Then give me your photograph and I will stick it on the iconostasis).

I can’t become Orthodox, because Orthodox are sinners and argue among themselves’.
(Yes, we know about ourselves, that we are sinners. We also think our Faith is important – that’s why we argue, because we are not lukewarm and indifferent. And that’s why we go to church and go to confession and communion, repent, read the Lives of the Saints and find healing for our arguments. You mean you do not know about yourself and your own need to repent?).

‘I cannot become Orthodox, because you don’t sing our hymns’.
(Why sing Victorian platitudes, when you can have ancient spiritual depth?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because the choir sings badly’.
(Then come and sing yourself and help improve it).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because the services are always the same’.
(You mean have never been to more than one Orthodox service in its entirety?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you can’t take part in the services’.
(You mean you have never tried praying?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I will no longer be free to change the Faith and pick from it what I want’.
(You don’t come to the Church to change the Orthodox Faith, you come to the Church to be changed by the Orthodox Faith. Or do you consider that you do not need changing?).

I can’t become Orthodox, because I can pray anywhere, without ritual’.
(And do you? If you can live without ritual, why then do you have a daily routine?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because there’s no difference between it and my present religion’.
(Why hesitate then?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because it won’t help me’.
(Correct. Nothing will help you, if you don’t first make an effort to improve yourself).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you don’t have the same calendar’.
(No, it’s you who don’t have the same calendar).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because it’s not Western, it’s ‘Oriental’.
(Then it’s like Christ. He came for the Middle East. He wasn’t Western and secular either).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I was born English’.
(Nor was Christ. By the way, I didn’t know that ‘English’ was a religion).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because there are foreigners in church’.
(For racists and xenophobes. As I said, Christ was also a ‘foreigner’).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you are so diverse’.
(That’s why we are not boring).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because the other people are different from me’.
(Are you anti-social? Yet you are different from them and they accept you).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because the clergy wear beards’.
(So did Christ. More victims of their cultural prejudices).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because women can’t wear trousers in church and have to cover their heads. It’s like Islam’.
(Yes, like the Mother of God? Or do you think that She was a Muslim? Or do you mean that you have no sense of modesty?)

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because men can’t wear shorts in church’.
(Nor did the Apostles and the saints and your ancestors, when they went to church. Why this need to distract others from prayer by your immodest way of dress?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because the services are too long’.
(You mean you are lazy?).

‘The services start too early and finish too late’.
(See above).

‘I can’t be bothered’.
(See above, but thank you for being honest).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because then I won’t be able to live with my partner any longer’.
(Yes, you will, only you will receive a Divine blessing, your union will become spiritual as well as physical, and your ‘partner’ will become your legitimate spouse, instead of your partner in sin).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you have to fast’.
(You mean you reject Christ’s sacrifice of fasting in the desert and his Gospel instructions about freeing yourself from demons through prayer and fasting?)

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I can’t eat roast beef every Sunday lunch-time’. (You mean you have an all-important passion for meat?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I can’t go to the pub on Saturday nights’.
(You mean you are too weak to stop your drinking bouts?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because the priest says that I should try to give up smoking’.
(You mean your passions are stronger than your faith?).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I don’t believe in God’.
(I understand. But how do you know? When you were surprised, I heard you calling on God’s name. If you start searching now, you will find faith and then be able to become Orthodox. Seek and you will find).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because my family will reject me’.
(I understand you. But are you sure? In any case, Christ will not reject you).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I do not live near an Orthodox church’.
(I understand you. Change your way of life, so that your priorities are based around the Church).

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because I don’t understand anything’.
(If you want to understand something, then begin by praying about it).

Or my favorite:

‘I can’t become Orthodox, because you have to stand and pray’.
(You mean you can’t be bothered. At least this is not an excuse, but honest).Top of For
